SJA Alberta Network Drives
There are a number of network drives available on SJA Alberta workstations. This guide will explain what they are and how they are organized.
Availablilty
- The network drives are only available on SJA Alberta workstations.
- The SJA Alberta workstations must be connected to the SJA Alberta network for the network drives to be available.
H:\ Drive
The H Drive maps to your home directory. This is your personal data storage area. All home directories are backup up daily.
H:\ Drive - Desktops
Desktop computers have My Documents mapped to the H:\ Drive.
H:\ Drive - Notebooks
Notebook computers do not have My Documents mapped to the H:\ Drive, since it would not work if you are not connected to the network. The H:\ drive is available under My Computer, and notebook computer users should copy their documents to the H:\ drive periodically to ensure their data gets backed up.
- The notebook computer must be connected to the SJA Alberta network for the network drives to be available.
R:\ Drive
The R Drive is for large amounts of data that does not change frequently. The storage is currently located at \\cassiopeia\data1\share\ab and exists on a RAID-5 NSS Volume on the server Cassiopeia. Permissions are assigned on an as-needed basis and are typically read-only except for the person who manages a particular area.

- Photos (contains the SJA photo archive)
S:\ Drive
The S:\ drive provides shared storage for SJA Network users. The storage is currently located at \\selene\data1\share\ab and exists on a RAID-5 NSS Volume on the server Selene. The S:\ drive is divided into several directories that permit access by security level and by department. The intent for the S:\ drive is for data that changes frequently AND needs to be worked on by multiple users… materials that do not change frequently or do not need to be edited by multiple users should go on the R:\ drive instead.
S:\ Drive - Security Levels
A user's security level is determined by their position within SJA. Users can see into the directory of their corresponding security level as well as all levels below their level.
- 0 - All Users
- 1 - Volunteer Members (Community Services Volunteers, Instructors, etc.)
- 2 - Centre Staff
- 3 - Centre Staff - Assistant Coordinators
- 4 - Centre Staff – Coordinators
- 5 - Provincial Office Staff
- 6 - Managers
- 7 - Directors
- 8 - VPs
- 9 - CEO
S:\ Drive - Location Stores
All users of any security level of a particular location can access the location store.
- HQ - Provincial Office
- ED - Edmonton
- CG - Calgary
- RD - Red Deer
- GP - Grande Prairie
- MH - Medicine Hat
- LB - Lethbridge
- FM - Fort McMurray
S:\ Drive - Departmental Stores
Users are assigned access to departmental stores on request. New departmental stores can be created by request as well.
