Classroom Computer Update Procedure (Alberta Council)

This procedure is to update course materials on a classroom computer
Procedure
For a classroom computer with Novell Client
- Log into the computer (workstation only) using the administrator password; each computer has a unique password (call technical services to obtain)
- Once logged in, connect to the server;
- System tray (right corner of task bar), novell red “N”, right click, novell login
- Log in with your username;
- use the 2 letter combination in a dot after your name… e.g. jdoe.cg
- .ed for Edmonton
- .cg for Calgary
- .rd for Red Deer
- .gp for Grande Prairie
- .mh for Medicine hat
- .lb for Lethbridge
- .fm for Fort McMurray
- .hq for Alberta Provincial Office
- use the 2 letter combination in a dot after your name… e.g. jdoe.cg
- Browse to the new version of the course, (R:\courses) keep the window open. right-click on the entire folder that contains the new course (e.g. 'MFR'), and choose 'copy'
- On your classroom computer, browse to the old version of the course. Delete the contents of the courses folder (but not the courses folder itself!)
- Right-click in the white area of the courses window on your classroom computer, and choose 'paste'. It will now copy the entire folder containing the new version of the course to the classroom computer. This may take a while depending on your location (several hours!). Click “yes to all” on any warning windows that may pop up.
- Close all the windows, log out
- Log in as the classroom user, and test the new course to ensure that it is working properly. Note that powerpoint files will require you to click 'read-only' to open them.
